Scrapbooking & Journaling Our Legacy

July 2nd, 2008

Today my thoughts are on scrapbooking and journaling.  We snap the “priceless” Kodak moment, design our favorite layouts, then tend to use just a name or a date and not much detail.  As time lapses our memories fade- the events, dates and especially names tend to leave us.  Tidbits we thought we would always remember have vanished.

“Who, Where, What, When and Why”  and  “Feelings” are all important to add to our layouts as we assemble them.   Feelings are another important journaling source.  How did this event make us feel, happy, sad, anxious?  Was this event humorous or maybe too brief?  Was this the last photo taken with someone special or the first? Maybe it was the happiest day of our life!

We are adding pages to be a legacy for others in the future,  we certainly don’t want them left wondering or trying to guess what these layouts truly represented and why we chose to highlight them.  If we are taking the time to snap the  “priceless”  we should also take the time to journal the reasons or the story. Layouts with many photos and no explanations don’t tell your story.

Journaling notebooks or boxes are a great thing to have.  In our busy lives it’s easy to forgot things.  A cute thing our kids said, a kind thought or saying from a loved one or friend, etc.  If we jot these down in a notebook or slips of paper or drop in your journaling box while they are fresh, they are there when we have the time to scrapbook and play! Something easy to pick up and take at the last minute.

Crops and retreats can be very fun and productive!  Organization can make the best of the time you have.  Time is important to all of us, time with family, time with friends, and legacy time!

We asked for warmer weather and wow did we get it! It will certainly get us in the mood to start our summer schedules!  I have heard several of you are trying to survive graduation and the kids being home from 24/7.  Others are planning and looking forward to the too short vacations!

Oct. LALR retreat seems a distance away but it will be here before we know it! I have been busy preparing some fun things.  I am excited! We have some new vendors and some familiar faces.

It has been nice to speak with so many of you regarding your questions.   I was surprised how many want “wall” seats. There are few wall seats remaining.

I have been busy teaching, some scrapbooking classes, some card workshops, 1 faithbooking group, and even some pre-school projects.   I also have the pleasure of babysitting my grandchild 3-4 evenings a week while Mom works.

Hope you can invent some creative time!  There never seems to be enough! Whatever you do today, Make It Count!

It’s another cool breezy spring day! Ready for some warmer weather!

Hard to believe it’s almost Memorial Day! We are celebrating by attending a local parade and a small cookout! I hope everyone has an awesome weekend and remember our troops in your thoughts and prayers.  We tend to remember those there and not always ones who have returned or are being deployed.

If you get one of the red poppys I saw a gentleman at the Sandusky Veteran’s Home making these in Jan.  He makes hundreds a week all year long for the holidays!  He has done this so much his fingers and the pieces fly through each one. I got to make one and gained new appreciation for the small red flower.

Enjoy your holiday, travel safely and check back next week to see if there’s anything new.  Cathy
